Holly Darrow ('22)
Communication projects coordinator at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)
Holly Darrow graduated from the MA International Relations program in Spring 2022. She is originally from Denver, Colorado where she now lives and works at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) which is part of the US Department of Energy. Her work consists of publishing scientific articles, developing strategic communications and outreach plans, hosting high-level events, and developing recognizable branding for clients. She works on initiatives from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) as well as other international projects such as Net Zero World, the Global Climate Action Partnership, the Platform for Accelerating the Circular Economy, and more.

Veronica Zanetta Brandoni ('21)
Advocacy Director at the Syrian Emergency Task Force
Veronica Zanetta Brandoni graduated with her MA in International Relations in the Spring of 2021. She was born and raised in Italy and, after a few years in New York, she recently relocated to Washington, DC. She work as the Advocacy Director at the Syrian Emergency Task Force, a US-based nonprofit organization. Her work consists of leading the Organizations’ advocacy and policy work to push for better policy in the US, at the UN, and in Europe, as well as to promote justice and accountability efforts. She maintains the Organizations’ relations and works closely with members of the US Congress, the US State Department, the National Security Council, UN Missions, and representatives of different European governments. She is also in charge of organizing advocacy and policy events, including hearings, briefings, panel discussions and exhibitions of evidence to mass atrocities.

Beatriz Ciordia ('20)
Communications Consultant with the UN Women's Peace and Humanitarian Fund
Bea Ciordia is a Communications Consultant with the United Nations Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund, a multi-partner trust fund mobilizing urgently needed financing for local women’s organizations working on the front lines to build lasting peace. Prior to joining the UN, she worked as a Mexico-based consultant with CGIAR, a global partnership of international organizations engaged in research on food security, poverty reduction, sustainable development, and climate change.
Bea holds an MA degree in International Relations from New York University, where she specialized in Latin American and Caribbean Studies thanks to a Fulbright Scholarship. She also holds a BA in Journalism from the University of Navarra (Spain). |

Youmna Al Hourani ('18)
Policy Consultant, World Bank Group
Youmna Al Hourani graduated from the MA International Relations Program in Spring 2018. She is originally from Lebanon. She is currently at Washington D.C. where she works at the World Bank Group. Her work consists of assessing the business climate of countries by benchmarking economies on their policies and legal framework to advise governments on action plans to facilitate the development of SMEs. Her focus has been on the intersection between energy infrastructure and private sector development. She contributed to several client dialogues, as well as advisory, in more than 30 countries across the Middle East and Africa.

Chase Morgan ('18)
Energy Analyst at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
Chase Morgan graduated from the MA IR program fall 2018. He currently works at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as an energy analyst focused on market based rates. Before joining FERC, Chase has lived and worked extensively throughout Sub Saharan Africa where he supported projects in the energy and education sector through USAID, U.S. State Department, and Peace Corps initiatives. His main interests include emerging markets and their energy sustainability and reliability standards. Chase also holds a bachelor’s degree in international business from Oklahoma State University. He currently lives in Washington D.C. with his Shiba, Kai.

Deniz Solmaz ('16)
Program Officer, Middle East and North Africa at National Endowment for Democracy
Following a Bachelor in International Relations pursued at the Middle East Technical University in Turkey, during which he did a semester abroad in Poland, Deniz Solmaz joined the MAIR program at NYU in 2014 after 7 months as a resettlement Assistant for UNHCR Turkey.
After completing the program in 2016 he worked as a research assistant at Munzur University in Turkey for two years, up until 2019 when he became a country specialist on Turkey for Amnesty International USA, while also working part-time as a Political Science Instructor at Lanier Technical College. He left both positions to join the National Endowment for Democracy in September 2021, becoming program officer in May 2022. Deniz Solmaz speaks English and Turkish fluently, and has some knowledge of German, Italian, Kurdish and Polish. He is currently based in Washington DC. |
